JAMS is the largest for-profit provider of mediation and arbitration services in the United States, with offices in more than 25 cities and more than 300 retired judges and senior lawyers on its panel. JAMS has been focusing on international opportunities, including the opening of an office in London, and sees this scholarship as an expression of its support for future practitioners.  This scholarship has now expanded to include students declaring any of the available LLM concentrations.

The Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine School of Law is pleased to announce that the Beijing Arbitration Commission (BAC) is sponsoring a full-tuition scholarship for Pepperdine's International Commercial Arbitration LLM.

BAC is a not-for-profit permanent organization devoted to providing a forum for impartial and efficient alternative dispute resolution including arbitration and mediation. It was founded in 1995 following the passage of the Arbitration Law of the People's Republic of China. The BAC focuses on contractual and property-related disputes, both commercial and international, among citizens, legal persons and other organizations. Since its founding, the BAC has grown into the foremost arbitration commission in China providing its services to both domestic and foreign parties. From an initial annual load of only a handful of cases, today the BAC consistently ranks among the top in both in the number of cases accepted and the total disputed amount.

As the foremost arbitration commission in China, the BAC is regarded by Economic Intelligence Unit as "the only local arbitration commission which meets or surpasses global standards".

Seegmiller Law Firm

The Seegmiller Law Firm, headquartered in Newport Beach, serves those who need legal services in both California and Nevada. The Seegmiller scholarship is available to applicants from Korea looking to earn a LLM in Dispute Resolution in any of the five concentrations available including Mediation, Arbitration, Litigation, International Commercial Arbitration (ICA) or International Commercial Law and Arbitration (ICLA).

Application Instructions

Interested students should send a two-page letter explaining why they would like to be selected for the JAMS, BAC or Seegmiller Scholarship with their application. Each letter should be unique to the scholarship applied. Scholarship applications will be due on March 6, 2015. Applicants are encouraged to apply early.

In addition to the full tuition scholarships, Pepperdine provides partial scholarships at the point of admissions.  Priority deadline for partial scholarships is February 15.

In preparation for the LLM program, International LLM students may want to participate in Pepperdine's U.S. Law and Legal Writing Seminar, offering a four-week Legal English intensive experience in July.
